Europeans of the Downs unite!

It's only been a few weeks since the last pan-European event.  The Eurovision Song Contest is a European one-night stand - a slightly embarassing obsession to which we hesitantly admit.  Now the next European event has begun, one of much greater magnitude, and this one is a lifelong love affair - football!  The European championship is at stake, and here in Germany, flags are on display everywhere.

The German team won its first game this evening, and what's more important, they played a great match!  Hopes were already high before the tournament began, and I'm sure they will continue to grow if the team continues to perform this well.

So how do you watch the games?  Public viewing or private?  All the games you possibly can, or just those of your country's team?  What, your country isn't even in the tournament?  Are you watching what the rest of the continent is doing, or have you lost all interest?

The thing about The Eurovision Song Contest is; no matter how painful the Sweedish entry is, you just know that, in a few weeks, they'll be in some weirdo's basement...

I'm a cricket fan, myself... County cricket, at that. Although, less so since it became a 'yob' sport. -_-

I watch as many matches as I can, I have not decided who I should suport yet though.

Of the teams that are there I usually cheer for Germany, Portugal or Sweden (when Denmark and Norway are not qualified that is)

Both Portugal and Germany showed their ability to play really great football in their first matches, if this is the standard for the favourits then this should be a gloriouse turnament.

So far I have watched the matches in private and I think this is how I will watch most of them, but I might be forced to watch some in public as only about half of the matches are shown on the "public-service" channels.

I'm not watching it at all, I'm still feeling disgusted about England being such a crap football team.

It annoys me because our major teams aren't even sporting teams any more but just marketing opportunities and so they have to have the 'best' footballers - in other words the expensive foreign players. They don't spend any money on bringing up the new talent in the UK any more so naturally, our national team is crap.

And it has Frank Lampard in it so it's even more crap. I hate Chelski.

I'll stick to the motor racing this summer instead but even that's going bottom up.

I hold out very little hope for the Olympics. Big Brother seems more appealing because at least a Brit could win that :D
