Bandwidth Limit Exceeded?

Anyone else finding themselves being throttled in the face when they attempt to access The Barrow Downs?
By which I mean; is the message "Bandwidth Limit Exceeded" appearing every time you try and go to either barrowdowns.com or even forum.barrowdowns.com?

Has the world gone mad? Has The Barrow Wight Himself been thrown into the void? Will The Downer get posted tomorrow? Where is the nearest tea shop? These questions and more must be answered before the day is done. If they are not, there will be blood! D:

Hookbill, I get the same notice. I assume it's a server problem which the Wight will have to take care of himself, so there seems to be absolutely nothing we can do. We need an emergency substitute forum somewhere!

Isn't that what this group is for? :)

Now do you wish to read my post to Scarburg Mead Hall? It starts like this: "Stigend knew what was to come. He knew Modtryth well enough. She called them discussions but Stigend wasn't sure that was the exact meaning of that word."

You don't?

Well where shall I post it then? ;)

Let's hope the BW will and can manage it soon enough. As Esty pointed out there's little we can do but to wait.

Aye Oddie and myself noticed it around midday (my time). She says the forum based under the IP address still works.

My first thought was that some big Tolkien-related news had come to light, and everyone knew about it but me. This is rather disappointing...

Tolkien's Corpse to be reanimated
Big enough news for you? ;p

Yeah, we've seen it. A bandwidth exceeded thing is usually quite serious too, so have patience!

I'll bet someone has posted a MASSIVE file on there or something - that's why you can only have small avatars, to save bandwidth.

It's possible, of course, that someone spammed the forum with something so huge as to overload it. But I don't recall having a problem like this any time in the past. I wonder whether it's an aftereffect of the upgrade. Seems like improvements are always paid for by some kind of technical trouble...

Alien has something to do with it, I'm sure.

Same here, but I can't remember if I've ever seen the same notice before, only that I remember the Downs having a volume upgrade about two or three years ago. If this is similar, it should be back up within several days.

The BW is the only one who has control over the server space of the site (and maybe a few of the Mods, I'm not completely certain being only a humble little Downer), so as others have said we'll just have to wait, see and hope.

I certainly hope that this isn't an issue of upgrading to a higher bandwidth, thus a higher monthly payment for the BW. :-(
I'd hate to see that burden being shoved on one person, so if such a thing does happen I hope we can pool some sort of donation together (even if its not a lot... don't worry, I'm not making any expendable income either).

I know this doesn't sound exactly uplifting, but whatever the root of the problem is I hope it's just a spambot or someone uploading a huge file, something that can be fixed over time vs. a bigger problem of expansion.

In any case, hopefully all goes well. :-)

Well, I hope it will get better SOON.
